As I sit on my chair in my thoughts with my box half opened and still packed… I contemplated. Who gave me this turntable? This old-school contraption that once served as the music for an entire household plays records, CDs, mp3s, AM/FM radio -even cassette tapes!
By the way, what is a cassette? (Just joking)
Mama (who lives about 80 miles away) urged me to call the store to reveal the mysterious gift giver! Surprise!
It is Daddy! On a call, he explained that the humongous outdated machine is not for me (Not for my birthday on Thursday or Christmas next week). Instead it is for me to ship up north to his Alaskan home all the way to his church. He needs it for his revival! He had to send it to California. Something about the battery not being safe for plane shipments! Since I lack package delivery expertise, I’m baffled. But Brother tells me that a few weeks earlier that Daddy declared his aversion to smartphones. And this big boxed 6-n-1 uncovers our father’s aging mind and his growing distrust for technology in the changing world.
